NVDA – FFN Special Workcamp in Daman – Nepal

Background of the project :<\/strong>
Organized by Friendship Foundation Nepal (FFN<\/strong>) together with NICE since 2015 as the post disaster projects https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/walkwithnepal<\/a>. Nepal was hit by a strong earthquake on 25 April 2015 where 8,700 people died, 17,000 people were injured, 500,000 houses were fully destroyed, and 800,000 kids could not go to school. FFN has projects in Daman since 2012 where farming is the main industry, but youth are moving to urban areas searching their jobs, so aging of population is getting a serious problem. Then, 98% of the houses were damaged by the earthquake, so we are also afraid of villagers\u2019 mental health.
The reconstruction of the community hall in Daman has been strongly needed and wishes by the local people for the multipurpose ways such as e-library, seminars and meetings of various people. Till now, about 50% of the ground floor has been reconstructed (about 20,000 Euro have been collected by the local side mainly donation from the rich people and 1,000 Euro has been donated by FFN through the fee paid by the volunteers) that is going very slowly now due to lack of the fund.

Work :<\/strong>
Reconstructing the community center, mental-care of the children in the school by playing and sporting together and education of disaster prevention. Through communicating with villagers, this project supports the challenges of villagers\u2019 community which confront damages of the earthquake.

Accommodation :<\/strong>
Simple communal room of the school or host family. You need to bring a sleeping bag. Meals will be cooked by volunteers by turns. Possibly, we can have home stay in the local community for 1-2 nights.

Location :<\/strong>
Daman is a small village, marketplace, and tourist attraction in Thaha Municipality, Makwanpur District, central Nepal. It lies on the Tribhuvan Highway, about 100 kilometres (62 mi) southwest of Kathmandu (about halfway to Hetauda) at an elevation of 2,320 metres (7,610 ft).

Participation Fee :<\/strong>
285 Euro for 14 days. Including :
– Transportation to the work camp and back to Kathmandu
– Meals from the dinner on the 1st<\/sup> day to the breakfast on the last day and accommodation from 1st<\/sup> day to the morning on the last day.
Fee doesn’t include : Health insurance, drinks, snacks, mineral water and medicine, and personal expenses.
