Walk with Nepal Project

On April 25th, 2015, Nepal was hit by a strong earthquake that killed 8,700 and injured 17,000 people. 500,000 houses were fully destroyed and 800,000 kids could no longer go to school. Our members, Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN) and Friendship Foundation Nepal (FFN) made immediate actions & long term projects to rehabilitate the areas. Together with 91 international and 200 local volunteers, VIN distributed 1,300 tents, constructed 550 transitional homes, and took other actions for the victims of the earthquake. In Banepa, FFN had been reconstructing an elementary school and a community center with around 60 international and many local volunteers. NICE, our member in Japan, sent a former staff to Nepal from June 9th to the 13th to review the situation. From this review, the common project, “Walk with Nepal,” was created together with FFN and VIN and was then sent to the project staff from August 2015 to January 2016 to continuously co-organize the workcamps in Banepa and Daman, as well as raised around 3,000 USD. VSA, our member in Thailand, organized a bilateral workcamp in Banepa, and DALAA, also from Thailand, raised a donation for both VIN and FFN. VolTra, our member in Hong Kong, and some other NVDA members also cooperated by sending volunteers and/ or collecting donations!
