Common Actions

World Tanabata Action (WTA):

Launched in 2008 and based on a Japanese tradition to share one’s wishes on bamboo trees, WTA is a global common action aiming to prevent climate change by raising people’s awareness and encouraging them to undertake personal concrete actions to stop climate change. Participants participate by planting trees or taking other actions to reduce CO2 emission. They also write an share their concrete actions on Tanzaku papers! Currently, 21,427 people in 19 countries had participated and 822,831 trees were planted! 15,882 Tanzaku papers were collected and were exhibited at the G8 Summit, COP10 Conference and World Summit for Forest Actions in Japan, and at UNESCO and its international conferences, which are held in France and many other places in the world.

Eco Sponge Action (ESA):

The Eco Sponge Action was launched in 2007 and promotes using acrylic sponges, which allow the washing of most dishes without soap. This can contribute to a positive impact on the environment (by creating less pollution in the rivers), our health (chemical soap is not good for our body!), the economy (save money to buy soap), and our lives (save time for rinsing).

NVDA decided to take common action and to extend it to all other food issues: hunger and malnutrition, waste, use of chemical in food planting/processing, eating local, eating healthy, planting and the importance of seed. The main aim of this action was to spread awareness on food waste and world hunger and malnutrition, help where it is needed, promote organic farming and eating locally (healthy food, fair trade, avoid pollution), protect the diversity and integrity of living resources, especially native seeds.

Ideas for actions:

  3. Spread the importance of seeds and awareness of GMO plants
  4. Eat only local, seasonal, and organic food, or eat vegetarian food, or forage for food on October 16
